What is replacement grip?

The replacement grip (base grip) is wrapped directly onto the handle of the racquet. It is the base of the handle onto which the overgrip is wrapped. The tennis replacement grip is responsible for comfort and vibration dampening during strokes. Base grips are usually sold in packs of 1. If overgrips are used then you don't need to change the replacement grip very often, you only need to do it once every six months or less.

Specification of replacement grips

The most important parameter when choosing a replacement grip is its thickness:
• a thin replacement grip will provide a better feel for the racquet as the edges on the grip will be more felt,
• thicker replacement grip offers greater comfort as it absorbs more vibration.

Further consideration should be given to features such as:
• surface type – tacky or dry,
• sweat absorption - the higher the percentage, the better the wrap absorbs sweat,
• weight - heavy grip changes the balance of the racquet towards the handle, light grip towards the head,
• material - synthetic grips are the most common choice, the second type of material is natural leather. The leather replacement grip is stiffer and provides a better feel with less comfort compared to a synthetic grip. Leather grips are also about 3 times more expensive than synthetic grips.
