On 27 August 2021, the centenary of the founding of the Polish Tennis Association (PZT) passed. After running and swimming, tennis – alongside cycling, skiing and sailing – is a sport with perhaps the greatest global reach, practised around the world by tens of millions of people (in Poland – approx. 300,000). Its stars are universally recognisable, and during the PZT's centenary we have had at least a dozen or so such heroes of the collective imagination. You can also easily find a hundred of them, which is why, under the eye-catching title "Sto na sto" (Hundred Against Hundred), we can recall – or in many cases introduce – the most outstanding Polish female and male tennis players. The profiles have been arranged according to the author's personal "ranking" (Tomasz Wolfke – a sports journalist and tennis commentator, chief editor and author of the concept behind the publication "10 lat PZT" (10 Years of PZT), which was released in 2021).
