Tennis has already become a global and democratic sport - anyone can play it and more and more people do so. Tennis clubs are no longer exclusive places for the richest. However, the more widespread tennis becomes, the more interest there is in the Wimbledon tournament - its history, traditions, elegance and chic. The fashion for the Wimbledon tournament is not going away - in the following text we take a closer look at this unique Grand Slam tournament.
The most prestigious Grand Slam
The tournament on the courts of Wimbledon has been held since 1877 in one of the districts of London located southwest of the center of the English capital. It is the only Grand Slam tournament to be played on grass courts. It is also the only Grand Slam tournament with a distinctive dress code - players must be dressed in white and the logo of the company that sponsors them must not be eye-catching. Unlike other major sporting events, there are not a lot of banners or billboards with advertisements at Wimbledon. Only select, reputable companies have an advertising contract, such as: Ralph Lauren, which dresses the umpires and balls kids to serve, and the Slazenger brand, which supplies balls for this tournament - specifically designed for Wimbledon's grass courts.
Wimbledon is the only tennis tournament in the world - played on grass, a special stiff variety - but how the balls bounce also depends on the soil on Wimbledon's Grand Slam courts; it must be firm and dry. Wimbledon's two main courts - Center Court and Court 1 - are used exclusively for this tournament. Other events of the London-based All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club are also played on the others.
Traditions of the Wimbledon tournament
It is worth remembering that the undisputed Wimbledon champion is Roger Federer. He has recorded as many as eight Wimbledon victories in men's singles play. Among women, Martina Navratilova has won the Wimbledon final as many as nine times.
In the 2022 men's singles competition, Novak Djokovic triumphed in the men's main event final, defeating Nick Kyrgios. In the women's competition, the best was Jelena Rybakina, who won against Ons Jabeur in the final. The men's doubles was won by Matthew Ebden and Max Purcell, while the women's doubles was won by Barbora Krejcikova and Katerina Siniakova, and the mixed doubles was won by Desirae Krawczyk and Neal Skupski.
The Wimbledon tournament has its own characteristics and traditions specific only to itself. Wimbledon is one of the last tournaments where tickets can be bought at the box offices on the day of the match. However, of interest to the public is not only what happens on the courts of Wimbledon, but also.... strawberry prices. Ever since this famous Wimbledon tournament has been held, it has been serving strawberries with whipped cream, which are so strongly associated with this Grand Slam tournament that they are almost the tournament's logo.
This year's edition of the tournament
This year's Wimbledon will be played from July 3-16. on the grass courts in London. Wimbledon brand
The Wimbledon logo is probably familiar to everyone - it stands out from other tournaments with its colors: green, purple and white. As every year, also this year, the biggest and most prestigious companies have prepared their collections for this Grand Slam. In the Tennis Zone we are pleased to present a large selection of clothing and accessories signed with the Wimbledon logo. First of all, we recommend, once again, Wimbledon signature towels - exactly the ones used on the Wimbledon courts by the players playing in this tournament.
The men's towel is, as always, in the colors of the Wimbledon logo, but the women's version is this year in the extremely original colors of pink and fuchsia.
We also recommend beautiful white Wimbledon signature hand towels.
This year's Wimbledon is of course not only about towels - thanks to Wimbledon, new collections prepared especially for grass courts were presented by the most important brands of the tennis world. The classic elegance of this most important tennis tournament is alluded to in its collection by Yonex.
A white polo with a collar and discreet piping is the quintessential Wimbledon tennis jacket. For the Wimbledon tournament, a beautiful collection has also been prepared by the Adidas brand, from which we particularly recommend the asymmetrical white dress made of extremely comfortable and seamless fabric.
The Wimbledon logo can traditionally also be found in the collection of Babolat - the company's gadgets this year are an elegant combination of white and green.
However, if you want to feel like a Wimbledon champion, you can't go past the brand's latest shoes - designed specifically for grass courts.
